cold cheese

Tuesday 1/24/12
Kler comes over to my apartment and we go out for dinner. We walk around looking for something yummy, but cheap cause I'm definitely on a budget. (I wrote it out and hung it on my board.) Before you call me cheap or whatever, let me explain...I'm on a budget so I can purchase clothes, a purse and wallet, and have enough to travel to Paris and Rome.

So we walk to Calle Goya and look around. I'm having her read me the menu items from each place we stop at. She's the best isn't she. :) Well we get to one place and it sounds pretty good. We're outside in the patio of the restaurant when the waiter comes over..."We're just looking at the menu"-Kler. He comes back and sees Kler reading to me and asks if I speak Italian, French, or German (all of which he speaks). I say English and he knows that language as well. We go inside and he helps me order as I ask him about himself. He's from NY, moved to Spain last summer, and is here working on his Masters. Wow, he's amazing.

Well I order the common/famous sandwich, Bocadillo. (View picture above) It comes with jamon, but I can add anything to it. So I tell him cheese. (Assuming it comes melted, mmm.) He brings us chips as we wait for our food. I don't eat chips and if I do I usually eat them with hot sauce (Tabatio to be exact). So I figure I'll ask because no one likes a plain potato chip.
I ask for some type of hot sauce and his response, "This isn't Mexico. We don't really serve hot sauce." hahaha Well I know it's not Mexico. The US has hot sauce so I thought this place would too. I say it's fine, but he insists on seeing what they can make. Yes, he has the cooks try and whip up some hot sauce. After some time he comes back with a bowl of what tastes like tomato/fry sauce. It's the thought that counts. :) It wasn't that bad and had a little spice to it so Kler and I had some.
(Picture: Kler and "hot sauce": I made her thumbs up it.)

My meal arrives and I realize it's a COLD sandwich. (If you know me, you know I don't like too much cheese and especially not cold cheese.) The sandwich has chunks of cold cheese. (This would happen to me.) I suck it up and I eat it....SOO delicious. I ended up added some of the "hot sauce" to it. I was a happy camper.

Friday 1/27/12
Elise gets in today and I'm stoked. Living with Lauren and Elise will be fun. I invite her to dinner that night since us other interns were planning on going anyway (Me, Lauren, and Paul). I decide on a 9pm dinner. Well since it's so late, I stop at every cute clothing/shoe store on my way home (Left work at 5pm, got home at 730 or so). For dinner I decide on Restaurante Everest View.
I order an Indian dish of rice and chicken. The rice was unbelievable. We have a nice dinner and learn about one another. Apparently we're really lucky to be in Spain for this internship. Paris and Madrid are the hardest to get, I'm grateful I was chosen. (Picture: Me & Elise)

After our meal we get the bill along with some weird looking rice. I'm having a conversation with Paul while the girls were eating the rice. They offered me some and said it was candy (I was only half listening). So I eat it even though it's in odd form.
....Ugh, gag. I'm vomiting, but I can't actually vomit. It turns out to be BLACK licorice flavored. Why didn't anyone tell me?!? I would have denied the offer. Well, turns out they had in fact told me so- I wasn't listening. We left home shortly after and for the reset of the night I had an awful taste in my mouth.

Black licorice candy should be banned. Good night.
